CURRENT NEW PROJECTS

Yurt on Wheels: Evening Learning Center at Villupuram, TN, India 1

The Yurt on Wheels program provides educational support to children who have dropped out of school or have never had the opportunity to attend. Through this alternative school project, children learn essential skills such as numeracy, literacy, and life skills in a more informal and engaging way. They are also exposed to various activities like art therapy, dance, skits, sports, computer literacy, and outdoor games, fostering their overall development.

In addition, we run an evening tuition center for Gypsy children in Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu. Here, 25 children receive assistance with homework, drawing, and are provided with school materials like bags, stationery, water bottles, and umbrellas annually. Our social workers closely collaborate with schools and parents to ensure these children continue their education and thrive academically.

Born out of the Aldu Foundation, Spenta is a social venture with a mission to empower people with disabilities by providing meaningful employment and crafting biodegradable products.

With Spenta, Aldu Foundation is expanding its commitment to social good by merging eco-friendly innovation with job creation.

Women Empowerment through Entrepreneurship

The Women Empowerment through Entrepreneurship project aims to uplift tribal women by addressing the socio-economic challenges they face, helping them become self-reliant and financially stable through entrepreneurship. By offering financial literacy, savings habits, business skills, and access to vital resources, we provide the tools for breaking cycles of poverty and marginalization, enabling women to take control of their future.

Identified Problems

• Limited Access to Education & Financial Knowledge: Many tribal women lack basic education and financial literacy, which restricts their ability to manage finances or engage with banking systems.

Solutions through Entrepreneurship

1. Financial Literacy Training: Comprehensive training that covers budgeting, saving, loans, and financial management—helping women effectively manage both personal and business finances.

Education Through the Yurt on Wheels initiative, we focus on providing basic education to the Gypsy community, particularly children who are school dropouts or have never attended school. Our team helps these children learn essential skills like reading, writing, and basic arithmetic in both English and Tamil. Many of these children have shown remarkable progress, gaining confidence and improving their academic abilities through our supportive and friendly approach.

ESAR-Play (Exercise, Symbolic, Assembly, and Rules)R

Play is a fundamental right for every child. Through the ESAR-Play initiative, supported by Chemins d’Enfance, we organize weekly play sessions for children under six in the Gypsy community. These activities, including exercise, symbolic games, and role-playing, help children develop essential skills like communication, creativity, and teamwork. The program allows children to explore, experiment, and express themselves freely, fostering cognitive and physical growth.

Children’s Development Activities

Yurt on Wheels offers a range of activities aimed at helping children discover their strengths and build skills for a brighter future. From sports like cricket and football to exposure trips to local landmarks like Auroville, children are given opportunities to grow both academically and socially. We also provide computer literacy classes, teaching basic programs like Word, Excel, and painting, to prepare them for a tech-driven world.

Intercultural Activities

The "Conte sur l'Autre" project uses intercultural exchange and theater to help children from different cultures understand each other. Through workshops, storytelling, and performances, children explore their identity and learn about other cultures. This project encourages mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation between children from different backgrounds, enhancing their worldviews and breaking down stereotypes.

Partnership with Other Organizatin

We collaborate with like-minded organizations to expand opportunities for our children. Partnering with groups like TYCL and Mugil Social Welfare Organization, we offer summer camps where children participate in sports, drama, and basic computer training. Life skills workshops, supported by organizations like Blind Rocks and GRITIES, help children develop crucial coping skills, such as problem-solving and teamwork.

Volunteer Program

With limited full-time staff, we rely on volunteers to support our efforts. We welcome volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in children’s lives. Social work trainees from Pondicherry University have contributed to our programs as part of their internships, and our key partner, GRITIES, has been providing vital human resources support for over three years.
